Have you ever heard of the “Vampire Facial?” While it sounds mythical, a vampire face treatment actually refers to the very real process of using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection therapy as a method of skincare.

PRP injection therapy is the safe, scientific process of using platelets from the blood to achieve a wide range of effects, including to heal tissue damage, combat hair loss, minimize scarring, and treat chronic wounds. It is also a valuable technique within the world of skincare, offering a wide range of benefits that result in a healthy, youthful glow.

If you’re interested in trying out the “Vampire Facial” for yourself, Brampton Cosmetic Surgery Center & Medical Spa is running an exciting promotion for the month of October! Each purchase of a PRP facial treatment will receive a complimentary 15mL ZO Brightalive Skin Brightener from ZO Skin Health. The Role of PRP Injection Therapy in Skincare

PRP injection treatments have been proven as a technique to naturally improve a person’s skin tone, texture, and quality. It uses platelets from your blood to naturally heal tissue damage, renew skin cells, improve collagen production, and improve your overall skin tone. The plasma injection treatments are effective in treating a range of concerns, including:

  • Dehydrated or crepey skin
  • Mild to moderate lines and wrinkles
  • Acne-related scarring
  • Discoloration caused by sun-damage

The treatments can be used as a standalone approach, or they can be combined with other treatments and skincare products in order to achieve the desired effect. Some complementary treatments include:

Most people can receive PRP injections and achieve healthy, glowing skin as a result. However, there are a handful of cases in which PRP injection therapy is not recommended. PRP injection therapy is typically not recommended for those suffering from conditions which may affect the platelets, including:

  • Skin or blood cancer
  • Use of blood thinners
  • Active cold sores
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Hepatitis C

What’s the PRP Injection Process?

PRP injection therapy begins by drawing a small amount of blood to be used in the procedure, typically from the arm. The blood is then placed into a centrifuge to separate the plasma, a process you can watch us perform here.

Once the plasma has been separated, it is then injected into various points on the face using world-renowned technology like Clarion’s World PRP system with V2 injector gun, as well as free hand needle techniques. You can watch us demonstrate this stage of the process here. The client undergoing the therapy will have a topical anesthetic applied to the skin 45 minutes prior to the injections in order to minimize any discomfort.

PRP injections may take several weeks to take effect and provide noticeable results. The procedure is most effective when the client receives three or more treatments, and it’s important to understand that individual results will vary from patient to patient, based on the severity of the condition being treated and general lifestyle factors. Once the initial three treatments have been completed, the patient is advised to repeat the treatment one-to-two times per year in order to maintain the best results over the long term. How to Prepare for PRP Injection Therapy

Prior to undergoing PRP injection therapy, it’s important to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water in the week leading up to your appointment. It’s advised to avoid taking Advil, drinking wine, or ingesting any other substances which are known to thin the blood. A high platelet content is essential for delivering optimal results.

After the treatment is complete, it’s normal to experience some small bumps from the injection points. Redness and mild to moderate swelling are also normal following PRP injection therapy. It’s advised to avoid wearing makeup for the first 24 hours after treatment to avoid irritating your skin and to ensure optimal results.
