Kenalog/Steroid Injections

Kenalog or steroid injections, that are injected into scar tissue, can reduce symptoms like tingling, and itchiness and soften, flatten, and lighten the scar. Steroids are anti-inflammatories that enhance collagen degradation. Kenalog or steroid injections can lighten and diminish the look of scars, however, they will not reduce the length or width of the scar. This procedure is an alternative option instead of surgery.

The ideal candidate for The ideal candidate would be patients who have thick (hypertrophic) scars and keloids.
What is the cost of the treatment? This treatment is approximately $100 + HST for each injection.

The Treatment Process

The steroid is injected into the scar and the process will require multiple injections, each one month apart. If the scar is large, it may be reduced by excising the scar followed by steroid injections. Recurrence rates are high for simple excision when not combined with monthly injections.
