Hyperpigmentation Treatment at Brampton Cosmetic
Hyperpigmentation is the darkening of skin in small patches or large areas, due to increased melanin production. Commonly, we see hyperpigmentation occur as a result of:
- Melasma – a darkening of the skin due to changes in hormones. It is often referred to as the “mask of pregnancy” since estrogen and progesterone sensitivity are also closely related to this condition, but can also occur from birth control, hormone therapies, and stress.
- Sunspots or Liver Spots – these small spots of darker skin appear from excess sun exposure over time, most commonly occurring on areas exposed to the sun, such as the face and hands.
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation – occurring because of injury or trauma to the skin, this type of hyperpigmentation can result from acne or even surgery.
